Ready to challenge yourselves?
Throughout the program, we’ll be releasing Challenges for your team to complete. The more Challenges you complete, the more chance you’ll have of making it through to IACT19 Pitch Night! Good luck!
Identify your competitors.
For this Challenge, reflect on what you have learnt from Workshop 1, particularly from the exercises on Competitive Analysis (Toolkit 03), and respond to the questions found here.
5:30pm, Tue 20th August
Interview your customers.
For this challenge, reflect on what you have learnt from After Hours – Customer Validation. Go out and interview at least five potential customers. Then, in the IACT Community Facebook group, state the name of your team, and share:
5:30pm, Tue 27th August
Request a mentor.
For this Challenge, reflect on what your team is looking for in a mentor, and respond to the questions found here. For teams who would like to be matched with mentors, these responses will also be shared with mentors to assist with the mentor matching process (Please note, you can complete this challenge even if your team does not require a mentor).
5pm, Mon 26th August
Video pitch to the community.
For this challenge, reflect on what you have learnt from Workshop 2, particularly from the Mentor Pitch exercise (Toolkit 07), and develop a pitch using the IACT Community as your Audience. Record a one-minute video of a team member delivering your pitch, and share it to the IACT Community Facebook group.
5pm, Fri 30th August
Identify your potential weakness.
For this challenge, consider your team’s current business model and identify one aspect of your business model that you feel will be the most difficult to execute, and why. Engage with your mentors, supporters, friends, etc. to come up with active steps you could take to improve your ability to execute in this area. Share what you have learnt in the IACT Community Facebook group (and see if anyone in the IACT community may be able to help you!).
5pm, Fri 6th September
Update your team details.
For this challenge, take this opportunity to update your Team Registration page to reflect any changes to your team and idea, as appropriate, including your team name & description, adding social media links, and completing the new fields. A unique link to your Team Registration page was sent to you at time of registration, but if you cannot locate it, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
5pm, Tue 10th September
Refine your prototype.
For this challenge, reflect on what you have learnt from Workshop 3 about prototypes. Then:
5pm, Tue 17th September
Identify your funding avenues.
For this challenge, reflect on what you have learnt from After Hours – Funding Avenues, then in the IACT Community Facebook group, list five funding avenues you have identified that are relevant to your venture (Hint: One avenue should be sales!) AND share one thing your team can start working on immediately to increase your chance of securing funding.
5pm, Tue 17th September
Develop your merch.
For this challenge, reflect on the Brand you have developed for your venture in Workshop 3. Then use this to develop at least one form of branded merchandise or marketing collateral, e.g. t-shirts, stickers, mugs, flyers, business cards, etc. Bring your branded material along to After Hours – Community Feedback and show it to the IACT Committee. Note: This should NOT be an expensive or time-consuming exercise – consider this the ‘prototype’ for your marketing materials, and think about how you may be able to develop something with a quick, lean approach! If you have existing marketing merchandise or collateral, develop something NEW!
7:30pm, Tue 17th September
Provide some feedback.
For this challenge, attend After Hours – Community Feedback, and during the networking rounds, provide constructive feedback to at least three teams on their ventures. Share this feedback using the Challenge 10 form.
5pm, Wed 18th September
Seek out some feedback.
For this challenge, use the weekend off workshops to reach out to a range of mentors. Share your pitch, business model and/or prototype with at least three mentors (you may wish to use the OK RDY platform to seek out additional mentors – more info here) and seek out feedback from them, particularly looking out for opinions that challenge your own. Then, in the IACT Community Facebook group, share the most interesting insight that each mentor provided, and how you will incorporate this feedback into your venture.
